Individual Learning Plans (ILP):
Should a diagnosis within one of the categories of disability recognized by the state be made for the student and the student does not qualify for educational services through the public school district, the parents, teachers, and the Special Services Facilitator will meet to determine whether continuing without Special Education Services results in an adverse impact on learning and school performance for the student. If not, the teacher will continue to employ strategies and interventions to provide the opportunity for the child to succeed.
The Special Services Facilitator may also work with the families to create an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). The ILP contains a list of educationally appropriate accommodations specific to the child's learning needs that CCS is able to provide that may include assistive technology, the use of fidgets to help with focus, preferential seating, extended time for assignments or tests, permission to chew gum, etc. Accommodations are developed with input from medical professionals and special educators, and based on individual student learning needs.

Child Study Teams:
Our Child Study Teams (comprised of grade-level teachers, special services facilitator, reading specialist, and other specialists when needed) meet monthly to discuss individual student needs and develop success plans to meet these needs. Middle school teachers meet weekly to give updates on student progress, discuss problems and challenges, probe opportunities for interdisciplinary connections and explore current educational theories to best serve our student and family needs.
Literacy Support:
Carondelet has a full-time reading specialist who works with students in grades K-6 to provide literacy support. As a teacher, the reading specialist provides direct instruction to students, individually or in small groups, to enable students to develop literacy and comprehension skills.
Middle School Advisory and Homeroom Groups: Recognizing that students need encouragement and support as they make the challenging transition from childhood to adolescence, we focus on the teacher-student relationship and social-emotional learning in middle school. Each student is assigned to an advisor and homeroom teacher who get to know the student as an individual. Mixed grade advisory groups meet one afternoon each week, creating an atmosphere that fosters interpersonal relationships and develops self-esteem. This is a time for reflection, learning organizational skills, exploring social interactions and creating a space for prayer.
Social-Emotional Care:
We believe our students' emotional well-being directly impacts their overall success as lifelong learners. To support the emotional needs of our students, Carondelet offers support services for students that may include our licensed school counselor, special services coordinator, tutoring, one-on-one advisory and/or a referral to outside resources including learning specialists and/or mental health professionals.
