Why a 1:1 program? A 1:1 device program encourages higher level thinking skills, problem solving, and creativity. Students are exposed to many learning resources and tools in a safe environment with the support they need to be responsible digital citizens.
Can I supply my own iPad? Carondelet's iPads are issued by the school. By having all students using the same device, we not only provide an equitable opportunity for the students, but we also ensure that all of the devices can be managed and maintained effectively and responsibly.
How will we encourage responsible use? We feel that exposing students to technology and guiding them to use it for good (and to recognize when it is not used for good) is part of a whole education. We teach students responsible use of technology, and expect them to follow our policies enforced by all of the middle school faculty. The kids are also required to take a digital citizenship class to encourage good stewardship of technology and responsible use. We offer support and education for both students and parents to ensure the tools are used appropriately.
Will the K-5 students use iPads? The K-5 students does not have individually assigned devices, but each PreK-5 classroom has 5 iPads assigned to it. They are used for extra math, literacy centers, the creation of multimedia projects, research, and numerous other projects and activities.
