Waite House
For several years, Carondelet has partnered with Waite House, a nonprofit in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis that provides programs to develop people’s strengths. One of Waite House’s services is an emergency food shelf. Each month, our classrooms collect food and personal items to donate to Waite House.
Service Highlights
- In 2005, Carondelet Catholic School was awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award by Pillsbury United Communities. (Waite House is one of five Neighborhood Centers of Pillsbury United Communities).
- In 2006, As part of the Minnesota March Food Drive - Waite House nominated Carondelet Catholic School in the category for the Most Creative Food Drive. They were selected by the Minnesota Food Share to be the recipient of this award.
- In 2007 Waite House received over 15,000 pounds of food from Carondelet. Carondelet also collected Toys for Tots for Waite House.
- Carondelet Brownie Troops have collected food, made Thanksgiving centerpieces and blankets for Waite House participants.
- Carondelet sixth graders made mittens with a personal note inside each pair of mittens. Waite House has also received school supplies, art supplies and gently used clothes from the students, staff and families.
- Carondelet families, the Brownie Troop, and the Youth Group have visited Waite House to help sort food and fill the shelves with their donations.
