Ms. Jacques Homepage Welcome to Classroom 103! updated 1/5/09
Weekly News
There is NO School on Monday, 1/19 (MLK Day).
Catholic Schools Week begins 1/25 - 1/31/09. More details to come about this fun and exciting week!
Study Buddies - If your child would like to participate, please send them with a note by Tuesday stating so and be sure to include what they need help on. This is information that the organizers and your child's "buddy" need to be made aware of beforehand. *Study Buddies is held on Wed.'s from 4:15 - 5:00.
Please make sure your child has shoes to wear in school if they wear boots to school.
The door to Room 103 will open daily at 9:40am. Children may start entering at that time. If your child arrives before 9:40am, he or she should wait in the office until 9:40. If I am not in my room until 9:40, your child is unattended in the hallways and I want them to be safe at all times. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring this happens.

Studying Hard
Math - We are working on long division.
Social Studies - We have been studying "Regions" and will begin learning about the "East."
Students should study the map of the east that went home with them on 12/19. They will be tested on: 1- their knowledge of the location of the states 2- the correct spelling of the states 3- the capitals 4- the state's 2-letter abbreviation
*The test will be on Friday, 1/9/09.
A big assignment went home with your child on 12/19. This assignment is taking the place of 2 tests, so it should be allotted plenty of time - it's not something that should be done in one night, but over time. There are 4 activities they can choose from. They only need to do ONE of them - their choice. Their rough draft(s) should be attached to their neatest, error-free final copies. This assignment is DUE 1/16/09.
Communications - The students mailed letters to their state's Chambers of Commerce before the Thanksgiving break. Already, some information has been sent back. I am waiting until after the Christmas break to distribute the information to the class. More research will happen at that time.
Science - We are involved in the unit on "Structures of Life." Students worked with and learned about seeds.
This week all the 4th grade classes will do a short unit on "the heart."
Religion - We are working on chapter 6: Making Good Choices.
Growing in Love - We read chapter 3 in class on 12/17. Please look over the at-home portion with your child and return the book when you are finished. Thanks!
